Are you wondering if Mississauga is worth visiting? Well, we’ve called Mississauga home since 2021 and have explored this city by walking, biking, car, and RV. We’re excited to share why Mississauga is definitely worth a visit!

Is Mississauga Worth Visiting?

Yes, Mississauga is absolutely worth visiting. With a variety of activities and attractions across all seasons, this city offers something for everyone. Whether you love the outdoors, shopping, or cultural festivals, Mississauga has it all.

Where is Mississauga Located?

Mississauga is located in the province of Ontario, Canada, just 30 km approx. from downtown Toronto. The city is bordered by Etobicoke (Toronto) to the east, Oakville to the west, and Brampton to the north.

You may have heard of Toronto Pearson International Airport, which is actually located in Mississauga. This makes it convenient for travellers, as the city is only about a 15-minute drive from the airport.

What is special about Mississauga? What is Mississauga best known for?

Mississauga stands out for its unique architectural buildings, like the Absolute World Towers (also known as the “Marilyn Monroe” towers), and the newly constructed M City condos, which give the city a distinctive skyline.

One of the city’s major highlights is Square One Mall, one of the largest shopping malls in Ontario, offering a variety of shopping, dining, and entertainment options.

Mississauga is also conveniently located—just an hour away from popular attractions like Niagara Falls and Blue Mountain and easily accessible to Toronto, making it a great home base for exploring Southern Ontario.

The city’s proximity to Pearson International Airport is another perk, as you can get to or from the airport in just 15 minutes.

Another great feature of this city is its more than 350 parks, meaning wherever you are walking, you’re bound to find green spaces.

Mississauga combines the charm of suburban life with easy access to big-city attractions, making it a special place to visit. Whether you love shopping, enjoying outdoor spaces, or using it as a hub to explore the surrounding areas, Mississauga has something for everyone.

How to Get Around Mississauga

Mississauga offers several options for getting around:

Public Transportation in Mississauga

Mississauga has its own public transportation system, MiWay, with an extensive network of buses that can take you around the city and connect you to neighbouring areas. You can pay using a Presto card or simply tap your credit card.

Square One Bus Terminal serves as the main hub, ensuring that you’re well-connected if you decide to use public transportation. A single ride costs around $3.40 – $4.25 CAD (depending on the payment method), making it a budget-friendly option.

However, public transport might take longer than driving; for example, a 15-minute car trip could take up to 45 minutes by bus.

GO Buses in Mississauga

You’ll recognize the GO buses by their signature green color. These buses are ideal for longer trips between cities such as Toronto, Niagara Falls, and Milton. Presto cards work here too, but remember to tap in when boarding and tap out when leaving to calculate your fare based on the distance traveled.

If you’re heading outside of Mississauga, this is a faster option compared to regular buses.

Train in Mississauga

The GO Train is another convenient way to travel to and from Mississauga. You can find several stations in the city, including Port Credit and Clarkson (on the Lakeshore West line), as well as Dixie, Cooksville, Erindale, Streetsville, Meadowvale, and Lisgar.

Car Rental in Mississauga

If you prefer the freedom of driving, renting a car is a great option. You can rent through Booking.com, or use ride-hailing apps like Uber and Lyft, which work smoothly throughout the city.

When to Visit Mississauga

Mississauga offers something to do in every season, but I would highly recommend visiting during summer, when outdoor activities and festivals are in full swing.

If you prefer cooler temperatures, spring is a great time to visit for cherry blossoms, while fall offers beautiful foliage. Winter is ideal if you want to experience snow and enjoy seasonal activities like ice skating.

Tours to Attractions near Mississauga

One of the best things about staying in Mississauga is its strategic location, making it easy to visit some of Ontario’s most popular attractions. Below are three must-visit places you can easily explore while staying in Mississauga, and trust me, you won’t be disappointed.

Mississauga to Toronto

If you’re interested in visiting Toronto, getting there from Mississauga is easy.

You can connect through public transportation using MiWay (Mississauga Transit) and the TTC (Toronto Transit Commission) or opt for the GO buses or trains, which are efficient and affordable.

If you’re close to any GO Train station (like Port Credit or Clarkson), hopping on the train is a convenient option. You can also rent a car and drive yourself if you prefer flexibility and independence.

Toronto, Canada.

In less than an hour, you’ll find yourself in Toronto, and there’s plenty to do, especially if it’s your first time visiting. Some top attractions include the CN Tower, Royal Ontario Museum, Art Gallery of Ontario, and the beautiful Toronto Islands (best enjoyed in the summer). You could also catch a concert at Scotiabank Arena or a sporting event at the Rogers Centre. Don’t forget the Ripley’s Aquarium, a crowd favorite.

Toronto is a bustling city with so much to explore, and the short trip from Mississauga makes it even more accessible.

Mississauga to Niagara Falls

This is an absolute must-visit! Niagara Falls is a world-renowned natural wonder located at the border between Canada and the United States.

From Mississauga, you can take a combination of GO buses that will get you there in around 2 hours. If you rent a car, the drive is faster—about an hour depending on traffic.

Photo of a woman standing up in Clifton Hills in Niagara Falls.
Clifton Hill, Niagara Falls

Once you arrive and find parking, take a scenic walk along the Niagara Parkway (the “Cliff”) for stunning views of the falls. If you’re there during the warmer months, I highly recommend taking the Hornblower cruise (or Maid of the Mist on the U.S. side) to experience the falls up close—you’ll definitely get wet, but it’s worth it!

I personally love Niagara Falls and make it a point to visit as often as I can.

Mississauga to Blue Mountain

If you’re looking for a bit of adventure and relaxation, Blue Mountain Village is a perfect getaway. It’s about a 1.5-hour drive from Mississauga, making it an ideal day trip.

Blue Mountain is a year-round destination, but it’s especially popular for winter sports like skiing and snowboarding. During the warmer months, you can hike, take scenic gondola rides, or even try zip-lining.

Sign showing the words: Blue Mountain Village. It also contains a map of the village in it.

The village itself is picturesque, with charming shops and cozy cafes. Make sure to stop for some hot chocolate and just soak in the atmosphere—whether you’re an adrenaline junkie or just looking for a relaxing day in a beautiful setting, Blue Mountain has something for everyone.

Whether you’re visiting Toronto, Niagara Falls, or Blue Mountain, planning ahead is always a good idea. Make sure to check the local attractions’ websites for seasonal events, tickets, and parking information.

Conclusion: Is Mississauga worth visiting?

Absolutely! Now that you have all this information, it’s just a matter of scheduling your trip and deciding which amazing activities and attractions to enjoy.

Whether you’re visiting for the beautiful parks, vibrant festivals, or the convenience of being close to other major destinations like Toronto and Niagara Falls, Mississauga has something to offer everyone.

So, start planning your visit—there’s no doubt that Mississauga is worth exploring!
