Moving to Canada

Here you can find resources that can help you in your move to Canada:

✅ Checklist of things you need to do in your country before travelling abroad

💸 Banking /Credit Card: I do my daily shopping with my Neo Credit card because it has good cashback. Explore more here and earn a cashback bonus!

🗣️English Practice Resource: Since I planned to come to Canada I started to have conversation classes in Italki. I completed more than 130 classes, even when I was already here. I loved it to improve my speaking and gain confidence in speaking. Get $5 off after your first purchase of $20 using this link.

📖 Practice your reading/listening skills: Headway is an App that gives you summaries of books that you can consume in 15 minutes. I find it ideal for practicing my reading or listening in English. I am on the free version which gives me access to a random book for free, but you can also explore the paid version.

📈 Monitor your credit score: Borrowell is the platform I use to monitor my credit score for free. It is very useful to understand what you are doing well and where you need to improve. Free tool to monitor your credit score.

💬 FREE networking tool: LunchClub is a free platform that allows you to meet new people according to your interests. Networking is key in Canada to finding new opportunities. It works by invitation only, so you can join using this link.

🌍 Canoo: Visit different museums, galleries, zoos, etc., for FREE or with a discount. (It applies ONLY to permanent residents and citizens of Canada.).

👩🏻‍💻 Learn how to work as a Freelancer: While in Canada I discovered a new passion and decided to change careers, in case you were wondering how I did it. This was the course I took and that today allows me to work as a Freelance Social Media Manager.

🌮 Too Good To Go:  Find surprise bags of complete meals or products at discounted prices. You can register for FREE on this app.

🍕 FlashFood: Find food at discounted prices. You can use JULI36R8D as a referral code – if your first purchase is over $10, you’ll get $5 in rewards. You can register for FREE on this app.

Travel & Petsitting

These are resources we use to travel inside and/or outside Canada:

🐶Pet Resources: TrustedHouseSitters is the website we use to travel and take care of other people’s pets. Become a Petsitter or look for someone to take care of your furry friend.

🗺️ Booking.com: This is a website where you can make reservations for accommodation, flights, car rentals, airport taxis and attractions.

📲Airalo: Did you know that when you travel to a different country, you can arrive and already have internet on your phone? That’s possible with eSIMs. I recently used this service when travelling to New York, and it worked perfectly. You can check out more details here.

✈️ Travel Insurance: SafetyWing is the travel insurance I always use when I travel outside of Canada. This is optional but no one wants to get sick abroad and not have a way to cover it. I like that it has several options, especially for nomads and is easy to buy. Fortunately, I haven’t had to use it, but I always have it on hand.

Entertainment

🎲 Gametime: This app lists leftover tickets for events like concerts and sports games, and you can buy them directly as the prices drop. You can monitor the prices and wait until the last minute to see if you get lucky! It works for cities in the US and Canada (at least the ones I’ve explored so far). Plus, you can use my referral code to get $5 in credits by clicking on this link!

This is a collection of products that Corita has been using on a daily basis for years, so they are highly recommended!

Books

Here is a selection of books that I (Julieta) have read or listened to (audiobooks) during our stay in Canada and that I recommend 100%.
